Boeing

Boeing supports WWF and the Round Table on Sustainable Biomaterials (RSB) in creating workable solutions for aviation biofuels. WWF’s active research role with government, South African Airways, farmers and related stakeholders, serves to understand the physical and environmental limits to the supply of biofuels for aviation in terms of available resources and its potential impact on land, water and energy demands in the region, as well as the socio-economic benefits such alternatives may create.

HSBC

HSBC’s contribution towards the Rhino Programme helps to implement its innovative approach to tackling the poaching crisis. These funds are instrumental in facilitating key areas around developing understanding around demand for rhino horn, supporting bilateral cooperation, strengthening the judicial and forensic chain to support arrests, prosecutions and sentencing of those involved in rhino crime, engaging communities living near rhino populations and working to ensure they benefit from rhinos, among others.

Pioneer Foods

WWF and Pioneer Foods’s Community and Education Trust developed the People Working for the Environment initiative. With further support from NCC Environmental Services, the initiative has invested in creating small black-owned and operated businesses to provide key management services on stewardship properties to improve the state of management on these high priority sites.

Rand Merchant Bank

Rand Merchant Bank Supports the work of both the Sustainable Fisheries Programme and the Sustainable Agriculture Programme towards ensuring the integrity of South Africa’s ecological assets and systems that underpin social and economic well-being.

Santam Ltd

Together, WWF and Santam have undertaken exploratory research with the CSIR and the University of Cape Town to understand both the systematic drivers of this emerging risk and potential response strategies.

This research places emphasis on the context and unique demands and challenges facing local governments.

Sonae Novorbord

Sonae Novorbord joined the Water Balance Programme in 2010, wishing to balance their operational water use of 183 824kl over five years. The company’s investment supports private landowners in the clearing in of approximately 120ha of water-thirsty invasive alien plants. This land forms part off the KwaMadlangampisi Protected Environment in the Enkangala Grasslands area found in Mpumalanga, thereby supporting private landowners who have shown commitment to broader conservation efforts.

South African Breweries

WWF works with SAB on assessing water risks to supply chains and their contribution to water security through a water stewardship programme.

WWF and SAB have a project supporting improved agricultural production, piloting the implementation and verification of good farm planning and improved production practices of natural areas while facilitating formal landowner stewardship of high-value biodiversity conservation areas found on barley supplier farms.

Toyota South Africa

Toyota South Africa is contributing towards securing our Grasslands and to supporting and ensuring the integrated management of South Africa’s Strategic Water Source Areas (SWSA’s) located within them.  This ensures that these areas are sustainably used to the benefit of local communities and other downstream users in terms of food and water provisioning.  The need to focus on, and protect our water catchment systems is a national priority and represents a significant risk mitigation strategy against natural disasters whilst simultaneously ensuring appropriate levels of water security to support sustainable economic and social development in South Africa.

UPM Raflatac

UPM Raflatac signed on as a co-sponsor of WWF’s fruit and wine work in early 2015, funding WWF Stewardship Extension services and project coordination in supporting sustainable wine production and the long-term conservation of critical natural areas situated in the Cape Floral Kingdom. Together we will actively promote FSC certified products in key packaging, labelling and printing of wine industry products.

Vodacom Group Ltd

Vodacom Group Ltd supports the WWF Kogelberg Small Scale Fisheries Improvement Project to initiate a broader process to address environmental challenges facing small-scale fisheries. The project aims to first maximise socioeconomic benefits such as market-based incentives and address the environmental challenges facing fishers in the community. Additionally Vodacom, through its own technologies, has supported this project through the development of a web-based information management system to assist in the collation of important ecological and socio-economic information.
