WWF South Africa and Pick n Pay have, since 2009, been involved in several collaborations in areas involving sustainable fisheries to promote biodiversity conservation and food security.
In 2023, Pick n Pay entered a new partnership phase to focus on climate & energy, freshwater, food/sustainable agriculture and marine projects. The partnership aims to transform Pick n Pay’s business operations and value chains to be more sustainable, responsible and resilient while at the same time reducing their environmental impact and driving resource stewardship.
As part of the partnership, WWF-SASSI also partners with Pick n Pay Schools to raise awareness and inspire the youth to play an active role in ocean conservation. Through this partnership, WWF-SASSI resources such as SASSI posters and pocket cards, are distributed to schools across South Africa, equipping learners with essential tools they need to make informed, sustainable seafood choices that helps safeguard our seas. Beyond the classroom, Pick n Pay Schools and WWF-SASSI also collaborate on social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram to amplify messages about healthy, sustainable seafood consumption and the importance of marine conservation, thereby empowering the next generation of ocean champions.
Pick n Pay is also a member of the WWF South Africa Business Network and a retail participant in the WWF-SASSI programme.
