In response to unsolicited inputs from various stakeholders and the ongoing discourse around South Africa’s pathway to a just transition, WWF South Africa and Mining Dialogues 360° (MD360) co-convened two colloquiums, one in Johannesburg in November 2019 and one in Cape Town in January 2020.
 
This briefing paper reports on the challenges, outcomes and suggested solutions identified during the two colloquiums to find pathways to orderly and transformative mine closure and rehabilitation in the context of the just transition and the new reality likely to emerge post COVID-19.
