There is no shortage of institutions that are engaging with small-scale renewable energy technology in East Africa. However, there is little contact between these organisations which results in overlap and competition for scarce resources to carry out research and implementation.
A regional approach could maximise the capabilities of these institutions and avoid unnecessary duplication of activities like cook stove testing for example and ultimately free up resources for this critical work.
This report reviewed Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania and Zambia to establish actors in the landscapes and what interventions were in existence, and what interventions could address the challenges mentioned. The report would be useful to energy practitioners, government policy and decision makers, research and academic institutions, and development actors.
