Nthapeng Charmaine Mogale
2023 Intern
Nthapeng “Charmaine” Mogale believes in a holistic approach to the health of the world and all that is in it. Having just launched her own fitness brand, she believes that a healthy mind and body set you up to be the best you can be and play your role in protecting the environment.
Charmaine completed her Honours in Environmental and Resource Studies at the University of Limpopo and is now working as an intern for WWF where she is assisting with the execution of various climate-related projects.
We spoke to Charmaine to ask her more about what has inspired her and how she views the road ahead:
What are you passionate about?
I am passionate about sustainability and finding innovative ways to combat climate change. My other passions include fitness and healthy lifestyle choices.
What inspired your choice of study?
I grew up watching National Geographic programmes with my father. He was passionate about nature, animals and the environment. This inspired me to learn more about environmental degradation and its impact on our world. I knew from then on that I wanted to be involved with improving and protecting the environment.
What excites you about your internship?
My Master’s degree research project focused on climate change and adaptation. This WWF opportunity to work in a space that will expand my knowledge of climate-related topics is very exciting for me.
What are your expectations of this internship?
I hope to gain experience and knowledge in my area of study, to grow my network and make a worthy contribution to a team that is working for protecting the environment.
What contribution do you hope to make towards a future in which people and nature thrive?
I hope to spread knowledge and awareness of environmental issues, help promote sustainable lifestyles and strengthen resilience in the face of climate change.
Who inspires you most and why?
I am inspired by women’s success stories. Growing up surrounded by a group of powerful women (mothers, aunts, grandmothers and cousins alike) has helped me realise a woman’s strength to get things done no matter what obstacles are in her path. Witnessing women do amazing things in their careers, while raising families at the same time, inspires me. It motivates me to reach higher.
