A tribute to Dr Jackie King
WWF is saddened to hear of the passing of renowned river ecologist Dr Jacqueline King.
Dr King was a former WWF South Africa Board member, a WWF trustee, and winner of WWF’s Living Planet Award in 2016 for inspiring several generations of scientists, planners and legislators in South Africa and around the world to better conserve our rivers.
Her work resulted in the rights of South Africa’s inland waters to a share of their water being included in the country’s 1998 National Water Act. She also advised governments of some the world’s great river systems, among them the Mekong, Zambezi, Okavango and Indus.
Among her many distinctions and awards was when Dr King was named the 2019 Laureate of the Stockholm Water Prize.
