Oceans of change: weathering storms

The WWF-SASSI Retailer/Supplier Participation Scheme participants have been making steady progress toward achieving their commitments to sustainable seafood. But there's a serious need for society, especially the private sector, to ramp up efforts for enabling healthy and productive oceans for our future.

This combined 2020 and 2021 report describes the progress made by South Africa's top seafood vendors toward meeting their targets for promoting and adopting sustainable seafood practices in their businesses.

Unfortunately, the combination of climate change and unsustainable seafood practices continue to severely threaten our oceans. The to-the-point publication emphasises the benefits of our oceans in regulating the climate and providing food, ecosystem services and livelihoods among other things. This is presented through a descriptive infographic that paints a picture of the impacts, and action points to stablise oceans and climate. Businesses are specifically encouraged to invest in a sustainable blue economy, support blue carbon efforts and help build local, resilient supply chains.

Plus, discover insights from a 2022 study on consumer perspectives, choices and concerns about the oceans, included at the end of the report.
