Executive Manager: Operations

Augustine Morkel joined WWF South Africa as the Executive Manager of Operations in August 2011. He started his career in conservation at the Kruger National Park in 1997, before moving to SANParks in 1998 to its Working for Water project. He later worked as an Assistant Section Ranger. In 2001 Augustine joined SANBI as the Estate Manager of the Kirstenbosch National Botanical Gardens, where he played a key role in integrating Kirstenbosch’s operations into the conservation sector. To this day the Garden benefits hugely from seamlessly allowing its commercial operations to benefit conservation and vice versa.

Augustine holds a B.Tech degree (Cape Technikon) in nature conservation and an MBA degree (Milpark Business School). He is currently working towards a PhD in Conservation Strategy.

WWF’s “culture for success” is something which Augustine is truly proud of. He believes that each and every role contributes to making WWF effective in South Africa and further afield.

Augustine believes that the importance of the engaging nature of the WWF team is something that cannot be underestimated. “Our ability to be open and honest has proved to be a winning formula and one which sets us up for greatness”.
