KZN Biodiversity Stewardship Programme

Building on the early lessons and success of Cape Nature’s Biodiversity Stewardship Programme, Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife, the provincial conservation authority for KZN, launched the pilot phase of KZN Biodiversity Stewardship Programme in 2005. Since 2008, WWF has provided a supporting role to their biodiversity stewardship programme, both strategically and technically, especially as it relates to the grasslands component of the province.

Nationally, WWF continues to provide support to DEAT and SANBI on national level policy framework and guidelines, as it pertains to the protected area expansion and to biodiversity stewardship.

Through WWF’s work in the Wakkerstroom Agricultural and Conservation Demonstration Project, it is providing strategic and technical support to the Mpumalanga Tourism and Parks Agency (MTPA) with respect to protected area expansion and biodiversity stewardship.
