Nature is the foundation that all South Africans and the economy depend on. But as a country we are dragging our heels in dealing with dire challenges such as climate change, food and water security, pollution and the social impacts that come with these.

If our political leaders prioritise the interconnected needs of people and nature, we can unlock a future where our environment thrives while creating meaningful jobs and opportunities for our country’s youth.

We call on the Minister of Environment, Forestry and Fisheries, Barbara Creecy, as the appointed champion for environmental issues, to heed the calls of young South Africans and invest in our youth by putting people and nature first.

We are consuming nature’s resources as if they will last forever – but the reality is they won’t.
