Climate change is real. We need to move away from fossil fuels and onto renewable energy sources such as solar, wind and waves. SA is one of 195 countries that agreed to this in the 2016 United Nations climate conference. Now it's time to act.

Why does it matter?

We rely on energy for everything. Our current energy model can't provide electricity everyone can afford, the planet included. We can't keep using fossil fuels like there's no tomorrow, especially considering that SA's solar and wind potential is among the world's best.

Did you know?

Renewable energy sources in South Africa cost nearly half the price of electricity generated from coal. We could save R86 million a year by 2050 if we use renewables.

What is WWF doing?

We're pushing for a transition to 100% renewable energy by 2050. We do this by supporting catalytic initiatives and working with government and businesses. We drive support for a low-carbon economy. We also help companies cut emissions and encourage investment in renewables.

Earth Hour

When we act collectively, we can achieve great things. Since its launch in 2007, WWF's Earth Hour campaign has connected hundreds of millions of people as they unite and switch off their lights for 60 minutes to take positive action for our planet.
