Mkhululi Silandela
Policy & Systems Change Lead
Mkhululi Silandela was appointed Policy & Systems Change Lead at WWF South Africa in 2024, bringing more than a decade of experience in driving transformational change to address the root causes of nature’s decline. He first joined WWF in 2012, recognising the organisation’s unique ability to convene, collaborate, and create credible solutions for people and nature.
In his current role, Mkhululi leads a diverse team of specialists working to influence policy, shift economic paradigms, and transform the systems and mindsets that underpin environmental degradation. His work focuses on bridging the false divide between the economy and conservation, advancing approaches that link nature, social equity, and sustainable development.
Before joining WWF, Mkhululi held various roles in trade and development, supporting the growth of sustainable supply chains and fair trade across Africa. He holds a BSc in Biochemical Sciences from the University of the Western Cape, a degree from DPUAS in the Netherlands, and MBAs from both the Management College of Southern Africa (MANCOSA) and Stellenbosch Business School.
“The challenges facing our planet are systemic,” says Mkhululi. “Real change happens when we align economic, social, and environmental goals to create a future where both people and nature can thrive.”
