Kegomoditswe Mokgofa
2025 intern
Kegomoditswe Mokgofa is as connected to her family as she is to nature and says of her siblings, “my mom gave birth to my best friends”. Hailing from Zeerust in North West province, she is currently placed as an intern with Greenpop where her work in restoration involves research and supporting the development of the organisation’s restoration projects and programmes. Her academic journey includes a Diploma in Agriculture from Potchefstroom College of Agriculture and a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture with a focus on Agronomy and Horticulture from North-West University. She is currently pursuing a Master of Science in Agriculture with a focus on crop science.
We asked her a few questions to find out more about her work, studies and inspirations:
What are you passionate about?
I’m passionate about farming, environmental sustainability and community outreach. Farming connects me with nature and its cycles, while sustainability reflects my commitment to protecting resources for future generations. Through outreach, I share this passion and encourage others to help build a thriving sustainable world.
What inspired your choice of study?
Growing up in an agricultural environment gave me a deep respect for sustainable practices and inspired me to pursue a career focused on solutions rather than contributing to existing problems.
What excites you about your internship?
I’m excited to learn from people with diverse backgrounds and work with a team that shares my values on environmental sustainability.
What are your expectations of this internship?
I hope to gain practical experience, grow my network and explore career options. After nearly a decade in academia, I thought lecturing or research was my path, but I now see that limited exposure may have shaped that view. This internship will help me discover where I truly want to go.
What contribution do you hope to make towards a future in which people and nature thrive?
I’m currently identifying the best land use for rehabilitated and non-rehabilitated mines in North West. My goal is to ensure safe beneficial outcomes for both the environment and affected communities.
Who inspires you most and why?
My mom and older sister. Their resilience, determination and ability to find joy despite challenges inspire me to face each day with gratitude and purpose.
