Bronwyn Harris
2025 intern
Bronwyn Harris grew up in Alberton, Gauteng. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science at the University of Pretoria and then completed her Honours in Environmental and Geographical Science. She is currently placed with WWF as a policy analyst intern, working with the circular economy team. When she is not working, Bronwyn enjoys crocheting and being out in nature, hiking and scuba diving.
We asked her a few questions to find out more about her work, studies and inspirations:
What are you passionate about?
I am passionate about tackling a wide range of environmental challenges and feel that vulnerable communities are often the most affected by environmental harm. Social and environmental challenges are interconnected and addressing them requires a complete overhaul of our current economic and governing systems.
What inspired your choice of study?
My choice to study Environmental Science was driven by a deep concern for environmental challenges and the fact that I’ve always been drawn to nature. Through my studies, I came to understand how deeply social and environmental issues are intertwined and I aspire to a career where I can help transform our current economic and governing systems into ones that prioritise the planet’s health.
What excites you about your internship?
I am most excited about working with a team of passionate professionals from whom I can learn and grow. I look forward to making a meaningful contribution to the work being done and gaining exposure to environmental policy and advocacy. This internship represents an invaluable opportunity for me to develop both personally and professionally.
What are your expectations of this internship?
From this internship, I hope to develop my technical and professional skills while gaining hands-on experience in environmental policy work. I am eager to learn how environmental policies are developed and applied in practice. I’m also looking forward to learning from experts in the field and building the skills needed to influence system change.
What contribution do you hope to make towards a future in which people and nature thrive?
My goal is to influence decision-making that goes beyond short-term economic growth and instead promotes sustainable resource use, environmental preservation and community empowerment. Through policy and advocacy work, I hope to encourage governments and corporations to consider the needs of future generations.
Who inspires you most and why?
My parents inspire me the most. My mom has shown incredible resilience and taught me the value of perseverance. My dad has always followed his passions and has always challenged me to think critically. They have taught me that true wealth is found in living with purpose and doing what makes you happy.
