Sustainable Fruit Initiative

The WWF Sustainable Fruit Initiative seeks to promote landowner stewardship whilst also promoting industry wide sustainable production (including on farm best practice) within the fruit sector of the Western Cape.

The project focused on reducing growers’ environmental footprints and impact, whilst ensuring on-going adaptation to create more resilient farming systems, buffered against the extreme impacts of a rapidly changing climate, increasing water scarcity and vulnerable reliance on energy intensive farming practices.

The initiative explores the most appropriate ways to support the implementation of best farming practices through the provision of advisory extension services, participation in farmer study groups, representation in key industry and importer associations.

Our goal is to equip farmers and fruit growers with comprehensive resources to ensure sustainability in fruit farming. Focus will initially be given to fruit growers within the Cape Floral Region.
