Environmental Leaders Programme

The Environmental Leaders Programme (ELP) aims to support the development of current and future leaders for the environment.
This is in line with WWF South Africa’s vision of inspiring people to live in harmony with nature for the well-being of all and the sustainable development of our country.

The WWF Nedbank Green Trust funds the Graduate Development Programme for Future Environmental Leaders. Currently 20 graduates have been selected for placement, and will be part of the 18-month WWF Graduate Development Programme scheduled to commence in April 2015.

Environmental Leaders Programme

The WWF South Africa has throughout the years successfully run a Graduate Development Programme in association with a number of partner agencies. Underpinned by the key principle of supporting and promoting transformation in the environment sector, the programme offers postgraduate students entry into the sector via an internship.

Selected interns are given the opportunity to develop the requisite skills for the workplace and assisted with making the transition from academic learning into the world of work.

Interns are placed with dedicated mentors in areas of work related to their academic backgrounds and career interests. Their career development journey during the internship is supported by a series of induction workshops in which they explore the environmental sector, the various role players and prospective career paths.

Recognising the value of this programme in unlocking the innovative and transformational potential of these future leaders, WWF South Africa now seeks to continue offering this programme to new graduates, across various disciplines. The WWF Nedbank Green Trust provides funding for this crucial educational initiative for WWF South Africa.

Interns are recruited from all 23 South African universities, where adverts calling for applications for the programme are distributed. To be selected for the programme, graduates must demonstrate passion and potential for working towards a better future for our environment and the current and future generations whose environmental rights are inscribed in the constitution of South Africa.
