As environmental industry leaders in the SA wine industry, WWF’s 38 Conservation Champions are committed to protecting their land and spearheading vital environmental innovations.
Farms participating in this Conservation Champion programme must comply with robust criteria ranging from active, signed environmental management plans to the demonstration of exceptional environmental leadership, and a production score of at least 70% from the industry’s Integrated Production of Wine.
Conservation Champions are also entitled to use the striking black label with the Cape sugarbird and protea on their wine bottles, showcasing their environmental leadership.
Shelly Fuller, WWF South Africa’s Manager of the Fruit and Wine Programme, commented: “We are so proud of the depth of commitment of our Conservation Champions. They work hard to improve their entire approach towards looking after the environment – from water use to waste programmes, energy initiatives and investment in solar to social upliftment and collaboration beyond their farm gates.’’
