Sustainable Agriculture

The WWF Sustainable Agriculture Programme works in collaboration with the agricultural and retail sector, and other key stakeholders in government, civil society and the corporate sectors to effectively promote and implement sustainable production practices, whilst reducing the sector’s environmental impact.

Our mission strives to ensure healthy ecosystems are secured and maintained within our farmlands and broader catchments, whilst promoting and supporting the development of a viable and resilient agribusiness sector. To achieve this, WWF-SA works together with industry and partners guided by the following strategic objectives:

• Secure outstanding places and unique species : working together with landowners to set aside remaining natural areas of high conservation importance (critically endangered or endangered vegetation, or species and freshwater habitats).

• Protect and maintain healthy, functioning natural systems: effectively managing our catchments, rivers, wetlands and soils and the free associated ecological services they provide – climate proofing our farms in the face of climate change.

• Promote the implementation of sustainable agricultural production practices and natural resource management that minimises the on farm environmental impact.
