Land Acquisition
The Namaqualand
WWF together with its partners are implementing various methods of conserving our landscapes. One such method is engaging with landowners and users to enter into stewardship agreements. Stewardship entails a land owner setting aside a portion of natural veld on his land for conservation and using it for any agricultural practices.
Since its inception more than 40 years ago, WWF has played a critical role in purchasing land with high biodiversity value. This has been done through the contribution of land acquisition trusts with the main focus of purchasing hectares of land to enhance South Africa’s Protected Area network.
WWF has played a critical role in both the creation and expansion of several our country’s National Parks and Nature reserves through our associated trusts, the Leslie Hill Succulent Karoo Trust (LHSKT) and the National Parks Trust (NPT).
In many cases, WWF played a seminal role in initiating the creation of the park. Parks towards which we’ve contributed include:
