The company has one of the lowest average water-to- beer ratios in the international brewing industry: 4.33 hectolitres of water used for every hectolitres of beer. The United Nations Environment Programme benchmark is 5-6.
All SAB´s breweries have the ISO 14001 international environmental management system certification.
SAB Ltd uses about 10.5-million cubic metres of water per annum. Approximately 70 percent of this is discharged as waste water.
Four out of the seven breweries at SAB Ltd have their own waste water treatment plants. These plants extract the majority of chemical oxygen demand (COD) before the effluent reaches the municipal treatment plants.
