“Through my internship I am learning a lot about business policies and corporate engagement.”
Luvo was born in Butterworth in the Eastern Cape, the third child in a family of six. He has three sisters and two brothers. His father works in the police force and his mother is a teacher. Luvo moved around a lot while growing up in the Eastern Cape and lived in Butterworth, Nomaheya (Transkei), East London, Cradock and Port Elizabeth. He never anticipated becoming an environmentalist, despite his enjoyment of biology in high school, and it was only through his exposure to the Groen Sebenza Programme that he realised that his abilities and interests could be developed through a career in the biodiversity sector. In his leisure time Luvo enjoys playing Xbox, taking walks, camping and listening to music.
Luvo attained a Bachelor of Arts degree, majoring in English Literature and History from the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University. What he enjoyed most about his studies was that he was encouraged to express himself creatively as an individual.
Luvo is based in the Business Development Unit at WWF-SA for the duration of his internship. His role involves offering the unit support with corporate research, database management and communications with existing and potential WWF-SA donors. He is glad to be developing his professional skills in a corporate environment as he learns the best way to represent the WWF-SA brand through his interactions with the broader business community.
Luvo is very passionate about community development, and is interested in building a career in which he can develop linkages between the business community and rural South African communities through funding partnerships.
