Green Growth South Africa

About GGSA

WWF’s Green Growth South Africa (GGSA) project, funded through the British High Commission, is intended to grow levels of ambition in South Africa to commit the country to a sustainable development process, or 'green growth’ path. Green growth can be understood as a way to meet the needs of current and future generations without harming people or the planet.

2011, as the year in which South Africa hosts international climate change negotiations and adopts domestic Climate Change Response Policy, provides the ideal opportunity to encourage discussion and develop a vision of what this ‘green economy’ might look like.

To this end, WWF, in partnership with the National Business Initiative (NBI), is hosting a series of events to engage decision makers and thought leaders on topics including climate finance and a transition to a low-carbon economy that is fair for all. The events will also consider the opportunities and challenges for emerging economies and strategies around the climate change negotiations.

Events

The GGSA project is hosting a series of events ahead of and during the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) climate change negotiations, 28 November to 9 December, to engage key players on the subject of low-carbon development and develop a vision of what this might include.
