The ICT sector is responsible for only 2% of the world’s greenhouse gas emissions, mostly through the following key areas:
At the same time, ICT-based solutions can help save significantly more greenhouse gases than it emits. These solutions include:

Tele-commuting and video-conferencing: using ICT to work from home or from a local office saves on transport
Smart buildings: where ICT-based intelligence optimizes the use of lighting, heating and cooling according to actual demand (e.g. lights on only when there is someone in the room) 
Smart meters and grids: intelligently connecting sources of electricity supply, wherever they may be, with essential demand.

WWF has worked closely with global ICT company and WWF partner, Hewlett Packard, to identify the role that ICT can play towards reducing the impacts of climate change.
