  • Biology | Spawning mostly over Agulhas bank, very abundant. Often in mixed schools with sardine
  • Habitat | Over continental shelf near surface
  • Distribution | Mostly in upwelling areas off west and SW Cape coasts
  • Capture Methods | Caught with purse-seine nets

Conservation Notes

  • Very important commercial species along with sardines. Bulk of the catch is converted into fishmeal
