Peter joined WWF in March 2008 to head the WWF CAPE Marine Programme which initially focussed on two study areas in the Garden Route and Kogelberg of the Western Cape South Africa. The programme was soon expanded to become the WWF Honda Marine Parks Programme which aims to support all of South Africa’s MPA’s to ensure their long term sustainable and effective management. Additional advice is provided to the sub-region as required.

Peter has over 20 years experience in the field of conservation, mainly gained in terrestrial conservation, but this has created a firm footing for him to understand the complexities of reserve management in both the terrestrial and marine realm. He has worked in all the major biomes of Southern Africa, mainly in the field of reserve and tourism management. Peter has also spent time in the field of research, having studied rare and endangered birds and also small carnivores. He specializes in developing sound holistic management systems for conservation areas.and he also has extensive experience in compliance and control and has developed various strategies to combat illegal activities within protected areas.
Peter is also an established professional photographer and also provides a service to WWF in this capacity.
