Richard Worthington joined WWF in May 2008 as the Climate Change Programme Manager. His role includes building up a team for national advocacy work and developing the South African role in the ‘New Global Deal’ Network Initiative, a key focus of WWF internationally.

Prior to joining WWF Richard worked for just over 7 years as Project Coordinator for the Sustainable Energy and Climate Change Project (SECCP) of Earthlife Africa in Johannesburg. Richard also represented SANGOCO (SA NGO Coalition) on government’s Integrated Energy Planning and Long Term Mitigation Scenarios processes.

Richard served as Coordinator of the South African Climate Action Network (SACAN) from 2001 – 2009 and was a Member of the Board of the global Climate Action Network (CAN) from 2002 – 2007. He is also a member of the Greenhouse People’s Environmental Centre - a project initiated by ELA. He was named Energy Personality of the Year in 2002 by the Sustainable Energy Society of South Africa (SESSA).
