The Table Mountain Fund was established by WWF South Africa as a capital trust fund in 1998 after raising in excess of R9 million from South African donors for the conservation of Table Mountain and the Cape Peninsula.
The Global Environment Facility contributed, via the World Bank, further founding capital of $5 million (then approximately R30 million) for the conservation of the remainder of the Cape Floral Kingdom, or as is more commonly referred to, the "Fynbos".
The Fund makes use of investment income to develop projects that are aligned with the Cape Action for People and the Environment (C.A.P.E.) strategy and that address target areas of high biodiversity, and activities considered to have the greatest conservation impact. Detailed funding directions and criteria are available upon request.
To date, over R24 million has been disbursed on conservation projects, including executing a block grant of R9m from the Critical Ecosystem Partnership Fund (CEPF) for a Capacity Building Programme.
WWF South Africa is responsible for all project approval and management, secretarial and administrative functions of the Trust, with reporting responsibility to the Trustees.
