Conserving our threatened species

Through the Species Programme, WWF partners with various organisations in an effort to conserve species and biodiversity. In essence, WWF South Africa's Species Programme focuses on reconciling land use of humans and wildlife to create sustainable compromises for the good of both people and naturally occurring species.

Numerous projects are on the go to:
- control invasive populations
- form networks of tolerant and supportive landowners and communities
- expand suitable ranges for endangered species

WWF is also working to halt the commercial overexploitation of some of the worlds most threatened animals, including rhinos, turtles and elephants, and to ensure the conservation of other species subject to illegal or unsustainable harvesting and trade. To achieve these goals, WWF engages with governments, industries and communities in both site-based conservation and international treaties, in particular CITES (the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Flora and Fauna).
