Conserving our Terrestrial Ecosystems
The earth's surface consists of a series of interconnected ecosystems or ecoregions. An ecoregion is a specific area in which climate, landforms, animals and plants are constantly interacting to create unique landscapes. All living beings form part of these ecosystems.

The Ecosystems Partnership is an alliance between WWF and the Botanical Society of South Africa. This partnership focuses on four key Ecoregions found in South Africa; Fynbos, Succulent Karoo, Grasslands and Forests. South Africa's Fynbos and Succulent Karoo regions in particular are recognised by the global WWF network as Outstanding Places.

The focal activities of the Ecosystems Partnership:
  • Expand the formal protected area network
  • Promote conservation outside of formal protected areas
  • Promote environmental sustainability among key production sectors and industries
  • Promote policy changes which encourage biodiversity conservation and sustainable natural resource management
